Steel stanchions would support the steel beams at the front wall of the chapel. For the right hand footing we had to cut some rock away before regularising with 40N concrete, for the left hand footing we had to dig down to expose the solid rock and again regularise with 40N concrete. With both the footings cast we could finally ask the steel supplier to come and measure up. At some point a doorway had been blocked up in the left wall, the doorway needed to be opened up before the steel stanchion could be installed so we set about removing it and while we were at it cut a channel through the rock across the main entrance for the foul drain to the mezzanine stack. 3 weeks later the steels were delivered and we could get on with the installation.
